A Benefit For St.Jude

Darius Rucker has been working hard, organizing the first annual Darius & Friends benefit concert.  All proceeds will benefit the research and efforts of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The event is scheduled for June 7, 2010 at Nashville’s Wildhorse Saloon.  Friends joining Darius on stage include Jake Owen, Radney Foster, Jamey Johnson and Randy Houser.

Rucker has been an active voice in the fight for a cancer free world as well as a long supporter of St.Jude.  The inspiration to put on such event came to Rucker after a visit and tour to the hospital last year.

Darius Rucker, Loss At ACM Awards

The 45th Academey of Country Music (ACM) Awards featured a stunning performance by Darius Rucker, who was attending the ceremony for the first time as a nominee, for Top Male Vocalist of the Year.  His competition was fierce, sattling up next to some of country music’s greatest talent George Strait, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, and Kenny Chesney.

Top Male Vocalist of the Year went to Brad Paisley.  He became the only artist to take the honor three or more consecutive years in a row, with 2010 being his fourth achievement.

Darius Rucker is preparing to set out on tour, pre-sale dates are being announced through his official website, dariusrucker.com.  Keep checking back for more Darius Rucker news.

Darius Rucker to perform at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival

Darius Rucker is scheduled to perform during the first weekend of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival!

The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, dubbed Jazz Fest, is held April 23-25; April 29-30; and May 1-2. What began at a small square in New Orleans in the 70s has now grown to fill an entire arena.

Though it’s held in New Orleans, it offers more than Cajun music. Performers like Anita Baker, Aretha Franklin, Aaron Neville, the Allman Brothers, Steve Martin, Better Than Ezra and Average White Band will be performing in 2010 on one of 12 stages.

Jazz Fest food is also a treat for the palate. Sure, it might be a festival, but the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation (who puts together the festival) has a strict ‘No Carnival Food’ rule. With more than 70 food vendor booths, festival-goers can expect to get the very best Cajun food in Lousiana with dishes like crawfish beignets, cochon de lait sandwiches, alligator sausage po’ boy (sandwich), boiled crawfish, softshell crab po’boy and crawfish Monica, according to the festival’s official Web site.

In addition to music and food, there are also several craft vendors that maintain booths in three separate areas of the arena: Contemporary, Congo Square or Folk.

Rucker’s first country album, “Learn to Live,” sold more than a million copies.

Darius Rucker goes platinum country style, celebrates with tour

Hot on the heels of the platinum-certified status of his first country album, Darius Rucker is touring the county this fall!

Rucker, who released “Learn to Live” in 2008, is the first artist in almost 17 years to top Billboard’s Country Chart three singles in a row with “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About,” “It Won’t Be Like This Forever” and “Alright.”

Rucker, who gained massive success while at the helm of Hootie and the Blowfish in the late 1990’s, turned country in 2007.  While celebrating the success, Rucker took time to thank Capitol Nashville president Mike Dungan, saying “But you, man, took a chance on something that nobody really wanted.  You talk to anybody that’s running a label right now, and they’ll tell you they would have signed me.  And they’re all lying.  You took a chance….I’m happy for me.  But damn, I’m happy for Mike Dungan.”

Darius Rucker Appears on CMA Music Fest TV Show

Highlights of Darius Rucker’s performance at the 2009 CMA Music Festival that took place last June will air on ABC from 8-11 p.m. on Aug. 31. The show, “CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock,” will also feature segments with other country stars, including Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, Sugarland, The Zac Brown Band,  Brad Paisley, Jason Aldean, and many more.

The show follows the performers, and also offers fans some “behind the scenes” peeks from life backstage. This viewing is the sixth year that the four-day festival has been released for TV audiences, giving country music followers  a chance to see the action that they may have missed.

This was Rucker’s first appearance at the festival, which originally began as “Fan Fair” in 1972. Attendance at this event  has steadily averaged about 4,000 more attendees from the festival’s previous year. See a YouTube clip of Darius addressing the press after the show.
